Culture
“Self Sponsored Sports embodies a culture of aloha, resilience, and empowerment. Our team of local mentors and volunteers work directly with keiki and families in Ko‘olauloa, teaching ocean safety, bodyboarding, and environmental stewardship with compassion and cultural grounding. We speak from lived experience, not from behind desks — most of our leaders grew up here and understand the challenges our youth face.”

Leadership
“Our leadership team combines local cultural knowledge, athletic skill, and nonprofit management experience. President/Executive Director Kimberly Fanene leads with over a decade of youth development and event coordination experience. The board includes educators, parents, and ocean safety advocates rooted in Ko‘olauloa.”

Infrastructure
“Programs currently operate from Hau‘ula Beach Park and borrowed community spaces. We are seeking to expand through the acquisition of, a parcel that will become a community farm and educational site. Additional funding will strengthen our capacity with equipment storage, youth transportation, and program materials.”
Impact
“Our keiki gain confidence, water safety skills, and environmental awareness that extend far beyond each clinic. Many return as youth mentors, helping the next generation — creating sustained community leadership and stewardship.”
Collaboration
“Partnerships include Aloha Harvest, Turtle Bay Foundation, Hale Alofa, and local schools. Together we combine resources to reach more youth, provide meals, and host culturally grounded, community-building events.”
Community Response
“Our programs were created after hearing from local families who couldn’t afford sports or transportation. We respond by offering free bodyboarding clinics, beach cleanups, and food distributions — meeting our community where they are. We evaluate impact by the number of youth served, beaches cleaned, meals distributed, and confidence gained.”
